EnginePower: Mazda Launches 2020 MX-5

As a brand, Mazda is well-known for its sporty performance, however the new MX-5 steps this awareness up a bit by offering an upgraded 2.0 liter powerplant mated with a host of running gear accessories.

For 2020 the car mounts a Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter engine, producing 181 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. To add to this motive force the MX-5 powertrain can be paired with a Skyactiv-MT six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The engine, paired with its lightweight physique and agile driving dynamics. provide for an outstanding power-to-weight ratio.

The new MX-5 will be fitted out as either a ‘Club’ variant, oriented to the production of pure performance, or a ‘Grand Touring’ type that leans more toward lux comfort. In either configuration the 2 liter is integrated with a manual or semi-automatic/paddle executed transmission, a limited-slip diff, Bilstein dampers, the addition of front shock tower braces, a Brembo/BBS Recaro package, with applied sport-tuned geometries throughout.
